ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management

ISO 50001 online: certificate after a self-assessment

You answer 32 yes/no questions about your energy management and receive the ISO 50001 certificate within 4 hours of passing and payment. No auditor visits your site, and anyone can verify the certificate online.

01: Process

How do you get an ISO 50001 certificate online?

The route has five steps and all of them take place in the browser.

  1. Start the self-assessment

It is free. Nothing is charged until you have passed.

  2. Answer 32 questions

Each one is a yes or no question about the energy management system your company runs.

  3. Meet the pass rule

13 of the questions are mandatory requirements of the standard, and all 13 must be answered yes. Of the other 19 questions, at least 13 must be yes.

  4. Pay online

You choose the plan and pay. You do not need an account to buy.

  5. Receive the certificate

SICE reviews every assessment. The certificate is then issued by G6 Agency AG under licence from SICE, within 4 hours after passing and payment.

Each certificate carries a number and a QR code that lead to a public verification page.

02: Preparation

What should a company prepare before the self-assessment?

The questions follow the requirements of ISO 50001:2018. The best preparation is to check what your company already has on paper and in its meters. Six topics come up.

Energy baseline
A reference period against which later change is measured. Collect the invoices for electricity, gas, heating oil and fuel.
Significant energy uses
The machines, buildings, processes or vehicles that account for the largest share of your consumption.
Energy performance indicators
Figures such as kWh per unit produced or per square metre. They show whether you are becoming more efficient.
Objectives and action plans
Written targets with measures, responsible people and dates.
Procurement
Energy efficiency is a criterion when you buy equipment, services and energy.
Monitoring and improvement
Who reads the meters, how often, and what happens when values drift.

If you would answer no to a question, you have found a gap. Close it before you submit.

03: Comparison

Online or on-site audit: what changes?

On the classic route with an on-site audit by a certification body, an auditor visits your sites. That requires a date in the auditor's calendar, access to staff and time away from daily operations. With Zertify the assessment happens at your desk, when you have time for it.

Some customers or tenders name the classic route explicitly. Read the requirement before you decide.

04: Price

What does ISO 50001 online cost?

Zertify charges CHF 749 (€749) in the first year, then CHF 499 (€499) per year including the yearly online re-audit. The certificate is valid for 3 years and is confirmed every year by that short re-audit.

The subscription renews automatically each year. You can cancel at any time in your customer account, to the end of the current year. The certificate then ends with the paid year. Prices for customers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein include 8.1% VAT.

If you want more than one standard, the price falls: 20% discount for two standards and 30% for three or more. The discount also applies to the yearly fee.

05: Verification

How can a customer check the certificate?

Every certificate has a number and a QR code. Whoever scans the code on the PDF or enters the number lands on a public verification page. A purchasing department working through a supplier questionnaire can check your status in a minute, and so can an auditor preparing a customer audit.

Attach the PDF to quotes and tenders, or upload it to the supplier portals of your customers. The QR code stays with the document wherever it goes.

06: Fit

Where does Zertify fit in your energy management?

Zertify certifies the energy management system you already run. It does not build one for you. Typical users are manufacturers, facility services, logistics companies, public institutions and any business with high energy costs.

The standard page explains the requirements in detail. The self-assessment shows within minutes how many of the 32 questions your company can answer yes today.
