ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety
ISO 45001 online: your certificate after a self-assessment
You answer 34 yes/no questions about how your business manages health and safety at work. Once you have passed and paid, the certificate arrives within 4 hours, with a number and a QR code that anyone can check. No auditor visits your site.
01: Process
How to get an ISO 45001 certificate online, step by step
The whole route runs in the browser. You do not need an account to start, and you do not need to book an auditor.
Start the self-assessment
It is free and needs no registration. You answer 34 yes/no questions on the requirements of ISO 45001:2018.
Pass the assessment
All 14 mandatory requirements must be answered yes. Of the other 20 questions, at least 14 must be yes.
Pay for the certificate
You can buy without opening an account. Payment follows the assessment, not the other way round.
Review and issue
SICE reviews your assessment. G6 Agency AG then issues the certificate under licence from SICE. It reaches you within 4 hours after you have passed and paid.
Share the certificate
The PDF carries a certificate number and a QR code. Both lead to a public verification page.
02: Preparation
What to prepare before you start the assessment
The questions follow the requirements of the standard, so they ask about your actual practice, not about intentions. Have the documents and the people at hand who can confirm each point. The standard puts health and safety with senior management (clause 5, Leadership), so the owner or a managing director should take part.
- Hazards and risk assessment
- A list of the hazards at each workplace, such as machines, chemicals, work at height, traffic on site or manual handling, and how you rate them.
- OH&S policy
- A written policy, signed by management, with a commitment to prevent injury and ill health.
- Worker consultation
- Evidence of how employees are asked and involved, for example safety meetings, minutes or reporting channels.
- Hierarchy of controls
- Your measures for the main hazards, ordered from eliminating the hazard to protective equipment as the last step.
- Emergency preparedness
- Plans for fire, first aid and evacuation, and a record of when you last tested them.
- Incident investigation
- Reports of accidents and near misses, with the actions you derived from them.
Answer yes only where you could show the proof to a customer in an audit. The certificate is only worth what your practice behind it is worth.
03: Pass rule
What you need to pass the 34 questions
The assessment has two parts. The mandatory part covers the requirements that the standard cannot do without. The second part leaves some room for points that are not yet in place.
| Part | Questions | Needed to pass |
|---|---|---|
| Mandatory requirements of the standard | 14 | All 14 answered yes |
| Further questions | 20 | At least 14 answered yes |
| Total | 34 | 14 mandatory plus at least 14 further |
A no on a mandatory question is a real gap in the management system, for example no hazard assessment or no emergency plan. Close it first, then run the assessment again.
04: Comparison
Online certificate or on-site audit: where time and money go
The classic route with an on-site audit by a certification body looks at your workplaces in person. It also ties up your people for audit days and runs to the auditor's calendar. The online route replaces the visit with a structured self-assessment and a review by SICE.
| Point | Zertify online | Classic route with on-site audit |
|---|---|---|
| Assessment | 34 yes/no questions answered by you | Auditor visits sites and interviews staff |
| Scheduling | You start when it suits you | Dates agreed with the certification body |
| Time to certificate | Within 4 hours after passing and payment | Indicative range: several weeks to a few months from enquiry |
| Cost basis | Fixed yearly price, published | Quote based on audit days, employees and sites |
| Effort for your team | One sitting for the questions | Preparation, audit days, travel of the auditor |
The saving comes from the missing audit days and the missing waiting time. If a customer or a tender explicitly requires an on-site audit, only the classic route will do. The guide on the routes explains how to decide.
05: Zertify
How Zertify fits in and what it costs
Zertify issues the ISO 45001 certificate on the basis of your online self-assessment. The certificate is valid for 3 years and is confirmed every year by a short online re-audit. All details on the standard are on the ISO 45001 page.
The price is CHF 699 (€699) in the first year, then CHF 469 (€469) per year including the yearly online re-audit. The subscription renews automatically each year. You can cancel at any time in your customer account, effective at the end of the current year, and the certificate then ends with the paid year. Prices include 8.1% Swiss VAT for customers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
If you need more than one standard, the discount is 20% for two standards and 30% for three or more. It also applies to the yearly fee.
06: Verification
How customers check your ISO 45001 certificate
Every Zertify certificate can be verified publicly. A purchasing department that receives your supplier questionnaire can enter the certificate number on the verification page, or scan the QR code on the PDF with a phone. The page confirms the certificate and its status.
You can therefore put the certificate into a quote, a tender document or the answer to a customer audit without the other side having to ask you for further proof.
