ISO 45001:2018
ISO 45001 renewal: how to keep your certificate valid
A Zertify ISO 45001 certificate is valid for 3 years and is confirmed every year by a short online re-audit. The re-audit is part of the yearly fee, so there is nothing separate to book and no auditor visits your site. This page shows what to review beforehand and how the cycle compares with the classic route.
01: Validity
How long is a Zertify ISO 45001 certificate valid?
The certificate has a term of 3 years. Within that term it is confirmed once a year. Four points define the cycle.
- Term
- 3 years from the date of issue.
- Yearly re-audit
- A short online re-audit confirms the certificate each year. You complete it online; nobody comes to your premises.
- Yearly fee
- CHF 699 (€699) in the first year, then CHF 469 (€469) per year including the online re-audit. Prices include 8.1% Swiss VAT for customers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
- Cancellation
- The fee is an automatic yearly subscription. You can cancel at any time in the customer account, effective at the end of the current year. The certificate then ends with the paid year.
02: Preparation
What to review before each ISO 45001 re-audit
The re-audit checks whether your occupational health and safety system still matches what you declared. A year is long enough for things to drift: a new machine, new staff, a changed layout. Go through these six points a few weeks before the date.
Hazard assessment
Compare your hazard list with the workplace as it is today. A new machine, chemical, shift pattern or subcontractor means a new entry.
Policy and management
Check that the OH&S policy is current and still states the commitment to prevention. Senior management should have reviewed the results this year; clause 9 expects it.
Worker consultation
Collect the minutes of safety meetings, the suggestions staff raised and what became of them.
Controls
Check that measures follow the hierarchy of controls. Where protective equipment is the only measure, ask whether elimination, substitution or a technical solution is possible.
Emergency preparedness
Note the date of the last drill. Confirm that evacuation plans match the current floor plan and that contact lists are up to date.
Incidents and near misses
Every incident should be investigated, with actions assigned and closed. Open actions from last year are the first thing to clear.
Keep the evidence in one folder. The same documents answer a customer audit or a supplier questionnaire when one arrives.
03: Overdue
What happens if the re-audit is overdue?
The certificate is confirmed year by year. A missed re-audit leaves that year without confirmation, and a certificate without current confirmation is not one to hand to a customer. Do not plan around a grace period. Treat the due date as fixed and put it in the calendar of the person responsible for health and safety.
Buyers can check a certificate on the public verification page, using the number or the QR code on the PDF. What you show should always match what is confirmed there.
Cancelling is a different case. If you cancel the subscription, the certificate ends with the paid year, and a new certificate means passing the self-assessment again.
04: Classic route
How does this compare with surveillance and recertification audits?
On the classic route, a certification body audits your company on site. Between the first audit and the end of the 3-year cycle it returns for surveillance audits, usually once a year. After three years a recertification audit covers the whole system again.
| Point | Zertify | Classic route |
|---|---|---|
| Certificate term | 3 years | 3-year cycle |
| Yearly check | Short online re-audit | Surveillance audit by a certification body, usually on site |
| Who is involved | Your own team, online | An auditor visits, walks through workplaces and interviews staff |
| Cost of the yearly check | Included in the yearly fee | Billed separately; depends on the body and the size of the company |
Some customers write an on-site audit into their tender or supplier requirements. If yours do, read the routes guide before you decide.
05: Zertify
Where Zertify fits in
The first step is an online self-assessment with 34 yes/no questions on ISO 45001. Fourteen of them are mandatory requirements of the standard and must all be answered yes. Among the other 20, at least 14 yes answers are needed to pass. After passing and payment, the certificate arrives within 4 hours.
G6 Agency AG issues the certificate under licence from SICE, and SICE reviews every assessment before the certificate is issued. Each certificate carries a number and a QR code for public verification.
If you hold more than one standard with Zertify, you get 20% off for two standards and 30% for three or more, also on the yearly fee. You do not need an account to buy.
