ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management

ISO 9001 for logistics: certified online, in 4 hours

Shippers, tender teams and partners often ask logistics companies for proof of a working quality system. ISO 9001 is that proof. With Zertify you take a self-assessment of 30 questions online and receive your certificate within 4 hours after passing and payment.

01: Demand

Why customers ask logistics companies for ISO 9001

A logistics provider handles goods that belong to someone else. A late delivery, a damaged pallet or a wrong pick stops your customer's production or sales. For that reason, buyers look for evidence that you work in a controlled and repeatable way.

ISO 9001 gives them that evidence in a form they know. Many tender documents, supplier questionnaires and framework agreements ask whether you hold the certificate. Large shippers also use it to compare carriers, warehouses and freight forwarders on a common basis.

For a small or medium logistics business, the certificate often decides whether you stay on a shortlist. It shows that quality does not depend on one dispatcher or one warehouse manager. It is written down, followed and checked.

02: Processes and risks

Which logistics processes and risks ISO 9001 addresses

ISO 9001:2015 does not prescribe how to run a warehouse or a fleet. It asks you to define your processes, identify what can go wrong and keep control. That fits logistics well, because the work consists of linked processes with many hand-overs.

The table shows typical areas in a logistics company and the part of the standard that applies.

Typical logistics processes, risks and the matching part of ISO 9001

Clause 6 Planning adds a systematic look at risks and opportunities. Clause 9 Performance evaluation asks you to measure results, such as delivery performance and customer feedback.

03: Key terms

ISO 9001 terms explained with logistics examples

The wording of the standard is general. These examples show what the main terms mean in daily logistics work.

Context of the organisation
The factors that shape your business: customer demands for delivery windows, fuel and labour costs, peak seasons, and the expectations of shippers and recipients.
Quality objective
A measurable target, for example the share of deliveries made within the agreed time window, or the number of picking errors per month.
Externally provided processes
Work done by others on your behalf, such as subcontracted carriers, temporary staffing agencies or external storage space. You must evaluate and monitor them.
Documented information
Records and instructions you keep: delivery notes, handling instructions, vehicle checks, training records and complaint logs.
Nonconformity
Any failure to meet a requirement, such as a delivery that arrives damaged or a shipment sent to the wrong address.
Corrective action
The step that removes the cause of a nonconformity, for example a changed loading instruction after repeated damage to the same type of goods.

04: In practice

How a logistics company meets the key requirements

You do not need a large quality department. For a small or medium company, the requirements translate into a few clear habits.

  1. Describe your context

Write down who your customers are, what they expect and which external factors affect your service. One page is enough to start.

  2. Set a quality policy and objectives

Commit to a short policy and choose two or three measurable goals, such as on-time delivery and damage rate.

  3. Assess risks and opportunities

List what could disrupt your service, for example a driver shortage in peak season, and decide on a countermeasure for each.

  4. Define and control your processes

Describe how goods are received, stored, picked and delivered. Add checks where errors are likely, such as a scan at dispatch.

  5. Ensure resources and competence

Train new and temporary staff on handling and safety instructions, and keep a record of who has been trained on what.

  6. Monitor performance and improve

Review your figures and complaints regularly. When an error occurs, find the cause and change the process.

05: With Zertify

Get your ISO 9001 certificate with Zertify

Zertify is an online platform. You complete a self-assessment with 30 yes/no questions on the requirements of ISO 9001:2015. If you reach at least 20 of 30, you can pay and receive your certificate within 4 hours. You do not need an account to buy.

The certificate is issued by G6 Agency AG under licence from SICE, the Swiss Institute of Certification and Education. SICE reviews every assessment before the certificate is issued. There is no on-site audit. Each certificate can be verified publicly by its number and QR code, so your customers can check it in seconds.

The price is CHF 599 (€599) in the first year, then CHF 399 (€399) per year including the yearly online re-audit. The certificate is valid for 3 years. It runs as an automatic yearly subscription, which you can cancel at any time to the end of the current year in your customer account. If you cancel, the certificate ends with the paid year. Prices include 8.1% Swiss VAT for customers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

If you want to compare this with the classic route with an on-site audit by a certification body, the guide on certification routes sets them side by side.

06: Next steps

From first question to certificate in one afternoon

Most of the work is knowing your own processes, and you already do. Gather your delivery procedures, training records and complaint handling before you start. Then the questions are quick to answer.

Once you have the certificate, you can add it to tenders, offers and your website. The yearly online re-audit keeps it current. If you also work towards other standards, a multi-standard discount applies: 20% for 2 standards and 30% for 3 or more, also on the yearly fee.
