01: Overview

ISO 9001 for companies in Biel

ISO 9001:2015 is the world's leading standard for quality management systems (QMS). It sets out the requirements for a QMS that helps an organisation consistently deliver products and services that meet customer requirements and regulatory obligations. The standard rests on seven quality management principles: customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, evidence-based decision making and relationship management.

Biel is widely known as an industrial location, with watchmaking, precision engineering and related suppliers shaping the regional economy. In such an environment, customers and partners often like to see that a supplier manages quality in a structured way. An ISO 9001 certificate is a recognised way to show this.

Zertify is an online service. We have no office in Biel, and we do not need one: the whole process runs on the web. Your location makes no difference to how you are certified.

02: Who needs it

Which businesses in the Biel region look at ISO 9001

ISO 9001 is not tied to one industry or size. It suits any organisation that wants to run its processes in a documented, controlled way. In general terms, these are the kinds of businesses that typically consider it:

Manufacturing and precision engineering
Producers and subcontractors who deliver components or finished goods to customers that expect a documented quality system.
Trades and craft businesses
Companies that bid for larger projects or work for public clients and want to show reliable, repeatable workmanship.
IT and software companies
Teams that need clear processes for development, delivery and support, and want to prove them to customers.
Consulting and service firms
Businesses whose product is the quality of their work and who benefit from a visible, verifiable commitment to it.
Public institutions
Organisations that want structured processes and measurable objectives for the services they provide.

These are general examples, not a statement about any specific company. If customers, tenders or partners ask you for proof of quality management, ISO 9001 is usually the first standard to look at.

03: Comparison

On-site audit or online route: what changes for a company in Biel

The classic route means an on-site audit by a certification body. An auditor visits your premises, reviews documents and interviews staff. The Zertify route replaces the visit with an online self-assessment that is reviewed before the certificate is issued.

04: Zertify

How Zertify fits in for ISO 9001 in Biel

Your ISO 9001 certificate is issued by G6 Agency AG under licence from SICE, the Swiss Institute of Certification and Education. SICE reviews every assessment before the certificate is issued. The certificate is publicly verifiable by number and QR code, and it is confirmed every year by a short online re-audit.

The price is CHF 599 in the first year, then CHF 399 per year including the yearly online re-audit. The certificate is valid for 3 years. Billing is an automatic yearly subscription. You can cancel at any time in your customer account, effective at the end of the current year. If you cancel, the certificate ends with the paid year.

If you plan to certify against more than one standard, a multi-standard discount applies: 20% for 2 standards and 30% for 3 or more, also on the yearly fee. Prices include 8.1% Swiss VAT for customers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. You do not need an account to buy.

05: Process

From first question to certificate: the practical steps

Because the process is fully online, a company in Biel can complete every step from the office desk.

  1. Start the self-assessment

Open the assessment in your browser. Starting is free, and you do not need an account.

  2. Answer 36 yes/no questions

Eleven of them are mandatory requirements of the standard and must all be answered yes. Of the other 25 questions, at least 17 must be answered yes to pass.

  3. Complete payment

After passing, you pay the first-year price of CHF 599. The yearly subscription then continues at CHF 399 per year, including the online re-audit.

  4. Receive your certificate

SICE reviews the assessment. The certificate is issued within 4 hours after passing and payment.

  5. Show and verify it

Customers and partners can check your certificate publicly by number and QR code. Each year, a short online re-audit confirms it.

06: Preparation

What to have ready before you start

The self-assessment follows the requirements of ISO 9001:2015. You answer more easily if you have thought about the following points beforehand.

Context of the organisation (clause 4)
Know your interested parties, such as customers, suppliers and authorities, and the issues that affect your business.
Quality policy and objectives (clauses 5 and 6)
Define a quality policy and set measurable objectives that management supports.
Risks and opportunities (clause 6)
Assess risks and opportunities systematically instead of case by case.
Processes (clause 8)
Define and control the processes that create your products or services.
Resources and competence (clause 7)
Make sure people, equipment and know-how fit the work they are meant to do.
Monitoring and improvement (clauses 9 and 10)
Measure performance, review results and improve continually.

If some points are still open, the questions show you where. That makes the self-assessment a useful check of your quality management in its own right.
