01: The standard

ISO 9001:2015: what the standard asks of your company

ISO 9001:2015 is the world's leading standard for quality management systems. It sets out the requirements for a system that helps an organisation consistently deliver products and services that meet customer requirements and regulatory obligations.

The standard is built on seven quality management principles: customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, evidence-based decision making and relationship management. The content is the same for every company. It does not change with the location, so a business in Winterthur works to exactly the same requirements as one anywhere else.

Context of the organisation
You understand and document the setting your company operates in and who has an interest in it (clause 4).
Quality policy and objectives
Management defines a quality policy and measurable objectives (clauses 5 and 6).
Risks and opportunities
You assess risks and opportunities systematically instead of reacting case by case (clause 6).
Controlled processes
You define the processes that deliver your product or service and keep them under control (clause 8).
Resources and competence
You make sure people, equipment and know-how are in place for the work (clause 7).
Monitoring and improvement
You monitor performance and improve continually (clauses 9 and 10).

02: Who needs it

Which businesses in the Winterthur region ask for ISO 9001

Winterthur and the wider region around it are home to a broad mix of businesses: manufacturers, engineering firms, trades and craft businesses, IT and software companies, consultancies and service providers. ISO 9001 fits all of them, because it describes how a company works, not what it makes.

The wish for a certificate usually comes from outside. A customer asks for proof of a quality system in a supplier questionnaire. A tender names ISO 9001 as a condition. A larger partner wants to see a documented way of working. Sometimes the trigger is internal: the owner wants clear processes before the team grows.

In each case the certificate does one thing. It gives your counterpart a simple, checkable signal that quality is managed on purpose.

03: Two routes

Classic on-site audit or online certificate: how they differ

The classic route means an on-site audit by a certification body. Auditors visit your premises, and your team sets aside time for the audit days. The Zertify route replaces the visit with an online self-assessment that is reviewed before the certificate is issued.

Classic route and Zertify route compared
AspectClassic routeZertify online route
FormatOn-site audit by a certification bodyOnline self-assessment with 30 yes/no questions, no on-site audit

Which route suits you depends on what your customer or tender asks for. Check that first, then choose.

04: Zertify

How Zertify fits for a company in Winterthur

Zertify is an online platform. We have no office in Winterthur and no local auditors, and the process does not need any. You complete the assessment from your desk, at a time that suits you.

The certificate is issued by G6 Agency AG under licence from SICE, the Swiss Institute of Certification and Education. SICE reviews every assessment before the certificate is issued. Each certificate carries a number and a QR code, so your customers can verify it publicly. Once a year, a short online re-audit confirms that it still applies.

The certificate is valid for 3 years. You can read the full requirements on the ISO 9001 page and the details of the fee on the pricing page.

05: Process

From self-assessment to certificate in practical steps

The process has five steps. Nothing in it requires a visit or a phone call.

  1. Take the self-assessment

Answer 30 yes/no questions about how your company manages quality. It is free and needs no registration.

  2. Reach the pass threshold

You pass with 20 of 30 points. The result shows you where your quality management stands.

  3. Choose and pay

Pay the first-year fee. You do not need an account to buy.

  4. Review and certificate

SICE reviews your assessment. The certificate is issued within 4 hours after you pass and pay.

  5. Share and keep it current

Send customers your certificate number or QR code for verification. Each year a short online re-audit confirms it.

06: Cost

What ISO 9001 costs with Zertify

The fee is CHF 599 (€599) in the first year, then CHF 399 (€399) per year, including the yearly online re-audit. For customers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the prices include 8.1% Swiss VAT.

Billing is an automatic yearly subscription. You can cancel at any time to the end of the current year in your customer account. If you cancel, the certificate ends with the paid year.

If you plan to certify more than one standard, a multi-standard discount applies: 20% for 2 standards and 30% for 3 or more. It also applies to the yearly fee.
