01: The standard
ISO 9001 in Zug: what the standard asks of you
ISO 9001:2015 is the world's leading standard for quality management systems (QMS). It sets out the requirements for a system that helps your organisation consistently deliver products and services that meet customer requirements and regulatory obligations.
The standard rests on seven quality management principles: customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, evidence-based decision making and relationship management. The requirements are the same wherever your company is located. A business in Zug works to the same standard as one anywhere else.
- Context (clause 4)
- Understand and document the context of your organisation: who your interested parties are and what shapes your business.
- Leadership (clause 5)
- Define a quality policy and measurable objectives, and make management responsible for them.
- Planning (clause 6)
- Assess risks and opportunities systematically instead of reacting to problems after they occur.
- Support (clause 7)
- Ensure the resources and the competence your people need to do their work well.
- Operation (clause 8)
- Define and control the processes that turn customer requirements into products and services.
- Evaluation and improvement (clauses 9 and 10)
- Monitor performance and improve continually, based on evidence.
02: Who needs it
Which businesses in Zug typically need ISO 9001
Zug is a business location with a mix of industry, trade, technology and services. ISO 9001 is not tied to any one of them. It suits manufacturing companies of all sizes, service companies, trades and craft businesses, IT and software companies, consulting firms and public institutions.
The reasons are usually practical. A customer asks for proof of a quality management system in a supplier questionnaire. A tender requires a certificate. A management team wants documented processes so that quality does not depend on a few people. In each case, a certificate that can be verified publicly saves long explanations.
Small and medium businesses often hesitate because they expect a heavy project. The standard asks for a system that fits your company, not for paperwork for its own sake.
03: Two routes
Classic on-site audit or online route: the differences
Companies in Zug can choose between two routes. The classic route means an on-site audit by a certification body. The Zertify route is based on an online self-assessment. The table shows how they differ in practice.
| Aspect | Classic route | Zertify online route |
|---|---|---|
| Audit format | Auditor visits your premises on agreed dates | Online self-assessment with 30 yes/no questions |
| Travel and presence | Staff time on site, coordination with the auditor | None, you answer from your own desk |
| Time to certificate | Indicatively several weeks to months, depending on the body and your preparation | Within 4 hours after passing and payment |
| Pricing | Individual quotes, indicatively varying with company size and scope | 599 CHF in the first year, then 399 CHF per year including the online re-audit |
| Yearly check | Usually a follow-up audit, often on site | Short online re-audit, included in the yearly fee |
| Verification | Depends on the certification body | Public check by certificate number and QR code |
Both routes serve different needs. If a customer or tender names the audit form explicitly, check the requirement first. The guide on certification routes helps you compare them.
04: With Zertify
How Zertify fits in for companies in Zug
Zertify is an online platform. It has no office in Zug and does not need one, because every step happens in your browser. You do not have to create an account to buy.
The certificate is issued by G6 Agency AG under licence from SICE (Swiss Institute of Certification and Education). SICE reviews every assessment before the certificate is issued. You pay 599 CHF in the first year, then 399 CHF per year including the yearly online re-audit. The certificate is valid for 3 years, and the price includes 8.1% Swiss VAT.
05: Steps
From self-assessment to certificate in four steps
The process is short and clearly defined. Plan some time before you start so that your answers reflect how your company really works.
Prepare your answers
Review your quality policy, objectives, processes and responsibilities. The questions follow the key requirements of ISO 9001:2015.
Take the self-assessment
Answer 30 yes/no questions online. You pass with at least 20 of 30. The assessment is free and needs no registration.
Pay and submit
After passing, you choose your plan and pay. No account is needed. SICE reviews your assessment before the certificate is issued.
Receive and use your certificate
The certificate arrives within 4 hours after passing and payment. Anyone can verify it by number and QR code, for example a customer or a tendering office.
06: After issue
Validity, yearly re-audit and cancellation
The certificate is valid for 3 years. Each year, a short online re-audit confirms that your system is still in place. It is included in the yearly fee of 399 CHF.
Billing is an automatic yearly subscription. You can cancel at any time in your customer account, effective at the end of the current year. If you cancel, the certificate ends with the paid year.
If you also need another standard, such as ISO 14001 or ISO 27001, a multi-standard discount applies: 20% for 2 standards and 30% for 3 or more, also on the yearly fee.
